The Homestake Mine
The Homestake Mine is a deep underground gold mine that closed in 2002. It is located in Lead, South Dakota just west of Deadwood, South Dakota. Until it closed in 2002 it was the largest and deepest gold mine in North America. Now the cut is open to the public to view from a distance. There is also a free museum and store on scene.
