Yankton

Yankton, South Dakota is home to around 23,000 people and the town lies next to the Missouri River on the eastern side of the state. The town is full of history, old buildings, and is a popular tourist and recreation destination. There are beautiful campgrounds and hiking trails, and it’s a very popular place to swim, fish, and go boating. River Boat Days which occurs every August is a fun activity to attend. It is home to the famous Ice House built in 1928 which was originally the region’s first artificial icehouse. It then made history by selling beer post-Prohibition. Today you can still have beer brought to your car at the Ice House, or sit outside on the dock and in tradition smash your beer bottle under the deck. This small act is encouraged and you usually get several cheers from everyone.
