Wildlife Loop Road
Lots of prairie dogs.
Burros are friendly and love attention.
Hungry burros - I know they love apples.
This 18 mile loop is your chance to see a variety of different wildlife in their natural habitat. You may see bison (buffalo), pronghorn sheep, deer, elk, coyotes, eagles, hawks, and a variety of other birds. The Bison are the main spectacle and with the large herd, chances are pretty good you will see some. There is also a small group of wild burros that are pretty popular with the crowds, and there are several prairie dog villages throughout the loop.
Buffalo tend to walk on the road and will approach your vehicle. Some even lick your car if it is dirty for the salt.
Burros come right up to your car and stick their heads in looking for food.
Turkeys running around.
This coyote was trying to get into a prairie dog’s hole when we were there.
