Stockade Lake North Custer Trailhead

Stockade Lake North Custer Trailhead is a fun trail on the north side of Stockade Lake in Custer State Park. It is a 1.5 mile easy loop that follows the lake a lot and has some great views. This is a perfect hike for dogs or kids. We did this hike when staying at Stockade North Campground and there was a trail down to the beginning of this trail. If coming by car just park by the dock off Highway 16A. The trail does not have a sign but is easily marked by a blue diamond the whole way. Some parts of the trail had tall grass so be cautious of rattlesnakes.

Start of the trail near the dock.

Easy to find and marked well.

Great views.

Left continues on the trail - the right goes back to the campground - Stockade Lake North Campground.

Gordon Stockade Historical Fort in the background.

Back in the woods we go.

Watch out for snakes.

Entrance to Custer State Park.

Cross the road going into the Stockade Lake North Campground.

Back to the beginning by the dock.
