Pvt James A. King’s Tombstone

Pvt. James King, Company H, 7th US Cavalry, died of typhoid fever, a casualty of George Armstrong Custer's Black Hills Expedition of the summer of 1874. He was only 25 years old at the time and buried along the Expedition route which at present time is near Nemo Rd. A standard US military headstone now marks Pvt. King's grave, which is surrounded by a wire fence and visible from the road. This gravesite is on private property and should be respected as such. It is about 6.5 miles west of Rapid City
