Powerhouse Park

Powerhouse Park is a newer park in Deadwood that consists of a 10,000-square-foot park and picnic area. Although the park is not that big, it is a nice place to sit, have a picnic, and listen to the sounds of the creek.

The park was named for an electric coal-fired power plant that provided electricity for the electric trolley that ran from Deadwood to Lead from 1902-1927. You can still see remnants of the former factory’s foundation and concrete piers if you look closely.

The park can be located near Sherman Street parking lot which is where the Mickelson trailhead starts. A 330-foot-long boardwalk connector trail, built on the original train track, leads visitors to Powerhouse Park. There are bathrooms on site, some picnic tables, stairs down to the creek, and a replica of the smoke stack from the Powerhouse.

Can walk down to the creek.

The park starts on the other side of the Mickelson Trail.
