76 Trail
This trail is in Spearfish Canyon and is one of the harder hikes. It is a 3/4 quarter mile hike one way and climbs 1000 feet in a short time. After you have hiked a bit you see a sign that says it gets even steeper. The trail is right across from the Spearfish Canyon Lodge and is a great hike if you want to see a pretty view of the canyon and challenge your lungs and body to a good climb. Make sure to wear good shoes and be prepared for a lot of steps. At the top you reach a lookout known as Buzzard's Roost.
Start of the 76 Trail just north of the Spearfish Lodge across the road.
Fall colors are gorgeous.
This is not an easy trail.
The trail immediately goes up and up and up.
Start to get good views not far up into the climb.
Up to this time the trail is pretty hard and steep. Love it when I get to this sign that says it gets steeper.
Nice rest stops along the way. This one was well used.
Another sign saying it gets even steeper. How fun.
Can see the top.
At the top.
View in the fall from the top.
Going down is even harder than going up.
Happy to be close to the bottom. Going down is hard on the old knees.
Going down able to appreciate the scenery even better.
The top of the 76 Trail overlook is to the left as seen from the Spearfish Lodge where the trail begins.
