Norbeck Trail #3
This is another trail in the Black Elk Wilderness trail system. This 5 mile trail officially starts at the west end of the Iron Creek Horse camp but since there is no parking near there, you will have to start either at the Centennial Trail or Grizzly Bear Creek Trailhead which will add another mile or so. The first 3 miles of this trail has a steady, easy incline and crosses Iron Creek several times. From mile 3 to mile 4 the incline begins and the last mile is pretty steep and rocky with an 800 foot elevation gain. This is a little used trail and has some amazing views and can be linked with trail #4 to access Black Elk Peak with an additional mile or so of hiking. When we hiked it, we made it a round trip loop with Trail #7 for a total of around 13 miles. A lot of people will actually get on the trail at the Upper Iron Creek Trailhead. This cuts off about 2.5 miles but it still leaves the steep section to tackle. This is definitely a cool trail to try if you like being alone with your thoughts and one with nature.
