Mount Rushmore
Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a sculpture carved into a mountain in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Completed in 1941 under the direction of Gutzon Borglum, it's roughly 60-ft.-high. It depicts U.S. presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. The monument is just west of Keystone, South Dakota off of Highway 244. There is a parking fee when visiting the monument.
On site there is also the Lincoln Borglum Museum - The museum houses over 5,200 square feet of interactive exhibits which inform you of the history and development of the sculpture. There are also two 125-seat theaters where the 18 minute film “The Shrine,” gives you an introduction to the memorial. This is a "must see" for your visit to the monument.
