Minuteman Missile National Historic Site

The Minuteman Missile National Historic Site are part of 2 facilities that were once part of a Minuteman Missile field that covered the western portion of South Dakota from 1963 through the 1990s. This includes Delta - 01 with its underground launch control center, Delta - 09, and the Minuteman Missile Visitor’s Center. During the Cold War there were 15 launch control facilities that controlled and commanded 150 launch facilities holding Minuteman Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles. Thousands of Air Force personnel worked around these nuclear weapons, and they were part of a missile crew who had the ability to initiate the use of nuclear weapons. It was their job to respond at a moment’s notice, while also ensuring the sites were always secure and functioning. The park is open Tuesday-Saturday through the summer and winter seasons.

At the Black Hills Visitor Information Center.

Small store on site.

Cool book to read through.
