Lover’s Leap Trail

The trail is a loop that begins behind the State Game Lodge School House which is across from the Peter Norbeck Outdoor Education Center on Highway 16A. It begins with a pretty steep but not too long of a climb. About 1/4 mile from the start of the trail, you will come to an intersection - this is where the loop begins. We suggest taking the trail that goes to the left. This way you get most of the uphill out of the way early and you can enjoy the hike the rest of the way. This trail is 4 miles long and does a nice loop.

Once you reach the top of the climb, you continue along the ridge line which gives you some great views of the area.

You'll eventually get to Lovers' Leap where two Native American Lovers allegedly leaped to their deaths.

Once you leave Lover’s Leap, the path continues on for a while and eventually leads you down the ridge line where you'll follow a nice creek. There are several bridge crossings that the kids really enjoyed. There can be a lot of poison ivy along the creek in the summer so watch out.

Right towards the bottom of the trail by the worker’s cabins the trail meanders back up the hillside till it meets the original trail. It is a very peaceful hike and usually you will not find many people on the trail. The trail is a 4 mile loop and usually takes 2-3 hours to complete. I recommend bringing a pack lunch and eating up on the cliffs by Lover’s Leap. The views are amazing.
