Harbach Trailhead to Mountain Trailhead

Milepost 44.5 to milepost 49.6 or vice versa.

Harbach Park Trailhead is located in the town of Custer and starts at milepost 44.5. It goes north or south. We have done this part of the trail a couple of times. It either keeps going south to The White Elephant Trailhead at milepost 35.7 or north to the Mountain Trailhead at milepost 49.6. We find going north is a beautiful and pretty easy trail and especially nice in the fall due to all the colorful trees. Once we get to the trailhead we keep going north another 1.5 miles to hit the tunnel underneath the road to Crazy Horse. This extra mile and a half gives you some cool views of the monument. This makes the trail for hiking, biking, or running a total of around 13 miles.

Cool train at Harbach Park in Custer.

Ready for another adventure.

Need to pay to be on the trail out of town.

Lots of parking.

Start of the trail.

In the town of Custer. Have to cross a couple of streets before you get out of town.

Off to the woods we go.

Lots of pretty large rocks everywhere.

Lot of smaller bridges to cross.

A little bit of history along the way.

Goes up, but not too bad.

Looking back - just gorgeous.

Made it to the trailhead - Mountain Trailhead off Highway 385, just south of Crazy Horse Monument.

Off to see Crazy Horse. Can see it in the distance.

Old buildings along the way.

Nice view of Crazy Horse in the background.

We go through the tunnel and then turn around. Now the fun way downhill all the way.

Back at the park in Custer.
