Elk Mountain Campground

Elk Mountain Campground is located in Wind Cave National Park. The campground is surrounded by prairie and the neat thing was we saw buffalo around the campground the whole time we were there. The campground itself has a lot of dying and dead pine trees making it not really that pretty. It is also more of a tent campground, since those sites seem to be better and even has their own section on top. The campground is a great place to stay if you want to visit the cave or do hiking in the area. We also did a section of the Mickelson Trail while there which isn’t too far away.

We were greeted with buffalo at the entrance to the campground.

Nice sunset.

Not the greatest views with all the dead and dying pine trees.

Other sites look bettter.

Lone buffalo in the morning hours.

Time to rest.

The rvs don’t have as nice of a campsite.

Amphitheater.

Pretty flowers on our hike in the campground.

Saw a woodpecker.

Lots of open prairie.

Fall camping.
