Deadwood Trailhead to Kirk Trailhead

Milepost 105.3 to milepost 108.8 or vice versa.

The trail between Deadwood and the Kirk Trailhead is 3.5 miles. We decided to walk this trail both ways this time instead of bike riding since there was still a lot of snow on the trail at times. The thing about walking it instead is you get to enjoy the scenery longer, and notice a lot more things you may otherwise miss. The trail takes you on the outskirts of Deadwood, pass the Lead sign, and then follows the outskirts of the Homestake Mine. There are some informative signs along the way that explains the history of the Homestake Mine. The trail ends at the Kirk Trailhead where there is a pot toilet, picnic table, and bench. From there you can choose which trailhead to continue on, or go back to Deadwood.

Another trail goes to the right off of the Mickelson Trail.

Can still see some old railroad tracks at times.

Deadwood Park - nice place to sit and relax if needed.

Can see the sign heading to the town of Lead.

In Pluma can get information about the trail and other things to do in the Black Hills.

Walking south out of Deadwood.

Now heading west to behind the Homestake Mine area.

Love this part of the trail.

Lots of bridges to cross.

We made it.

Can pick which way to go from here. We turned around and walked back to Deadwood.
