Crow Peak Trail
Crow Peak is a 3.5 mile hike to the top of the peak - total mileage of 7 miles round trip. The hike can be hard for some since it pretty much goes straight up from the beginning of the trail, and it gains a lot of elevation, but the views are amazing and definitely worth it. You can see all of the Black Hills, Bear Butte in Sturgis, and parts of Wyoming.
To get to the trailhead take Exit 9 off of I-90 in Spearfish and head south on McGuigan Road. Turn right onto Hillsview Road, then left on Higgins Gulch Road. Follow the road until you get to the Crow Peak Trail head parking area.
The trail is easy to see and follow and there is a large parking lot. Higgins Gulch Road may not be accessible in winter depending on how much snowfall the area has received. Also in the spring you may have to cross a creek on the main road going in if there is a lot of rain.
Parking lot and turnoff.
Start of the trail from the parking lot.
Pretty flowers on the way up.
Runner on Crow Peak Trail - very hard.
Start to get a pretty view of the Black Hills once out of the trees.
Bear Butte in the background.
First sign we are close to the top, but still a ways to walk.
Had to go through this in June. My car made it fine. Others may have to be careful.
Only water you walk through on the way to the peak.
Our destination - very far away.
