Chinook Days Winter Festival

The Chinook Days Winter Festival occurs every January in Spearfish, South Dakota. The festival highlights the city’s world record temperature change of 49 degrees in two minutes. On January 22, 1943, around 7:30 a.m. MST, the temperature rose from -4 degrees to 45 degrees above zero. The world record still holds today. The celebration is a week long event of pub crawls, snow sculptures, winter games, fat bike rides, snowshoe tours, soup feeds, live music, bonfires, a beer fest, and fireworks. We partook in the Chinook Days bonfire and fireworks and it cost us only $5.00 a person. There were food trucks on site, and two good bands. The many burn barrels throughout the setting were great because it was extremely cold. The beer fest looked really nice with samplings from over 14 craft beer makers. We will definitely come back again next year.
