Central City, South Dakota

Central City is a small community between Deadwood and Lead, South Dakota. The town was founded in 1877, and in the 2020 census status only 93 residents remain. The town began as a mining town, and had many as 3000 people living there in the 1870s. The town had to overcome many obstacles over the years including a fire, flood, an explosion in a mine, and a sit-down strike. The post office closed in 1971 making this town more of a ghost town. Today a few business are there and the old Central, Golden, and Terraville Hose House is still standing.

Old church now privately owned.
