Canyons Trail

The Canyons Trail is a 3.5 mile loop that is near Jewel Cave National Monument. It starts at the picnic area near an old historic cabin. The trail descends down some stairs to a couple of cave openings which are pretty cool. The trail then meanders through an open canyon for a bit until it goes back into the trees. The canyon can get pretty hot since there is little shade. This trail also meets up with the Roof Trail once near Jewel Cave. The trail was a peaceful and pretty easy trail, and we saw almost no one while on it.

Historic cabin at the beginning of the trail.

Beginning of trail is pretty neat.

A couple of cave openings you can check out.

This opening was closed with a gate, but you can peer inside. Also extremely cold air came out of the cave which was nice on a hot day.

Lots of pretty flowers along the trail.

This section of the trail was wide open, no trees, and very hot.

Back into the trees we go.

It meets up with the Roof Trail near Jewel Cave.

The trail no longer says Canyons Trail, but Historic Area - follow those signs back to the beginning of the trail.

Found this little guy along the trail.

Almost there.
