Boulder Hill Trail
Boulder Mountain is a trail off of Boulder Hill Rd. There is a dirt road to the beginning of the trail at the top that is usually easier to walk than to drive. There are places to park by the dirt road leading up to the mountain. There is also a trail you can follow that goes around the mountain if you want to hike more. The views are stunning and there are cement block remains of an old fire tower on top of the mountain.
To get to the trail head, drive west of Rapid City on Highway 16. Turn onto Silver Mountain Rd and then left onto Boulder Hill Rd. You can also go down Sheridan Lake Rd and turn onto Boulder Hill Rd and drive south to the location. The dirt road trail to the top of the mountain is pretty bad and even a 4 wheel drive vehicle will not be able to make it to the top most of the time, so just park at the bottom and walk up. It's not too bad. If you choose to walk the Boulder Hill Trailhead (easier to find) there is a small turnoff and the trail begins to the south of the parking lot. This trail is around 2 miles round trip. The trail to the top can be a little rocky and strenuous for those who are not use to elevation change or climbing.
